When most people think about starting a detox some of the first things that come to mind are fasting or a liquid diet. On the contrary, countless studies show that limiting your diet to just liquid or nothing at all isn't ideal for an effective solution towards weight loss. In fact, depriving  your body of foods and fluids could have an adverse effect on your body.

Dr. Madelyn Fernstrom, PhD, CNS, founder and director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Weight Loss Management Center goes on to says: "Fasting is not a weight loss tool. Fasting slows your metabolic rate down so your diet from before the fast is even more fattening after you fast,"

A safe and effective detox begins with hydration. Every morning you should start the day with warm to room temperature water mixed with lemon and a dash of Himalayan pink salt. Himalayan pink salt is a great source of minerals your body yearns for. Lemon prepares the body for digestion, so what you put in your system thereafter is better absorbed.

It's important to stay hydrated throughout the day by sipping room temperature water. Matcha green tea is an excellent source for hydrating while loading up on antioxidants. Another plus to matcha green tea is one of its key ingredients  l-theanine, which provides the body with a safe boost of energy without the jitters that come with coffee.

Avoid processed foods. Processed foods are loaded with sodium, carbohydrates, and sugar which cause inflammation in the body, this can result in your gut rejecting healthy bacteria, along with potential harm to your joints. Processed foods attribute to the body not responding well to stress. A natural and effective counter measure to reduce inflammation in the body is turmeric.

For a healthily alternative to processed foods go for organic fruits and vegetables. One vegetable in particular that stands out is asparagus which flushes toxins from the system and is a natural diuretic. A diet rich in fiber which consists of foods such as beans, avocado, and chia seeds which are helpful in promoting healthy digestion.

Sweat it out. Whether you workout at home or the gym sweat. Sweat is our bodies natural way of releasing toxins. Sweating also helps fight sickness and promotes healthy skin.

Catch up on your ZZZ's. For a successful detox, it is important to get 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Getting sufficient sleep helps the body heal from the day's tasks and reduce inflammation.
